SBYSF at the 2012 Junior Olympic Sailing Festival
The 2012 Junior Olympic Festival was hosted by California Yacht Club in Marina del Rey July 12-15.
The Santa Barbra Youth Foundation was proudly represented in the Opti, 29er, CFJ, C420, Laser and Laser Radial fleets. Read below for a recap of the Youth Foundation’s achievements during the event.
Opti Fleet- 10 races sailed, 24 total competitors.
SBYSF competitors included: Frankie Doyle, Ryan Eastwood, Katelon Egan, Annika Fedde, Lucas Pierce, Matty Pierce, Caden Scheiblaurer, and Cameron Scheiblaurer.
Five of our sailors finished in the top ten, with Lucas Pierce finishing in second and Frankie Doyle following in third. Matty Pierce finished in fifth and Ryan Eastwood in seventh, Annika Fedde in eighth respectively. Congratulations to all of our SBYSF Opti sailors!
Laser Fleet- 9 races sailed, 9 total competitors.
SBYSF competitors included: Carson Shevitz, Brian Wheeler, Matt Long, and Stephen Long.
Matt and Stephen Long took the top two places with a mere two point separation between them. Great job to all of our Laser sailors!
Laser Radial Fleet- 9 races sailed, 37 total competitors.
SBYSF competitors included Caroline Gay and Cassidy Shevitz, both sailed hard and represented SBYSF proudly. Well done ladies!
CFJ Fleet- 11 races sailed, 32 competitors.
SBYSF competitors included the team of Jodie Jacobs and Zach Zerman who sailed hard in their first Junior Olympic Festival. Well done guys!
29er Fleet- 9 races sailed, 6 competitors.
SBYSF competitors consisted of the following teams: Cuyler Zimmerman / Soren Wilde and Evan Heffernan / Jonathan Beardon.
The team of Herffernan / Beardon finished second, an outstanding accomplishment given this was Evan’s first 29er regatta. Congratulations!
C420 Fleet- 9 races sailed, 32 competitors
The SBYSF was represented by Savannah Willard who crewed for Jack Jorgensen (ABYC) in the C420 fleet. This regatta was also the 420 National Championship.
The team of Jorgensen / Willard placed second with only one point separating them from first place!
Congratulations to all SBYSF competitors for representing our foundation on and off the water!
