Teen CFJ Racing Class (13-18)

The SBYSF Race Team Program is our premiere racing program, for sailors who have graduated from Optimists or other small boats, and find enjoyment in the working towards developing racing skills. Practices focus on developing racing skills that will allow participants to compete on a regional, national, and international level. The commitment expected of participants in this program is comparable to other Varsity level high school sports. Participants can earn credit in Independent PE at school (please inquire with your school’s athletics department). Sailors in other SBYSF programs can qualify for the Race Team by mastering certain skill requirements outlined in our Race Team Skill Evaluation Sheet. This class often participates in regattas. Please see the SBYSF Calendar for specific dates. Sailors will learn intermediate and advanced boat handling techniques, including sailing with a spinnaker sail. Teen Racing sailors are encouraged to attend regional regattas during the summer as schedules permit.

Intermediate Optimist Class — (age 8 -15)

The Intermediate Optimist class is designed to help sailors transition from the Novice sail-cube class to green fleet.  It builds upon the fundamental skill-sets developed in the Novice Opti class and introduces sailors to racing. Classes are held in one-person, 8’ Optimist Sail Cubes and or optimists.  This class is the most recent addition to our program and has been very popular.  It is a good combination of fun cruising and racing.  It allows sailors to improve at their own level as they become comfortable and confident with themselves in the sport.

Class Capacity : 10
