Santa Barbara Youth Foundation Trailer from 2016 shows young and older new sailors learning on Optimist and CFJ class sailboats in the Santa Barbara harbor on a beautiful Summer day.

2016 National Team Trials Warmup Day - The yearly National Team Trials is the most competitive event in the United States for the Optimist class. Sailors have to place well in USODA sanctioned events throughout the year to qualify for this event. After sailing upwind from Tiburon to the Golden Gate Bridge, our SBYSF contenders were coached on their down wind sailing. The following day they were in line with 250+ sailors getting signed in, boats measured and prepared for the races in two days. Ryan went on to earn a spot on the National Team in this event! SBYSF has a group going to Brant Beach, New Jersey in May to attend the 2017 Trials.

Heavy Weather Practice - Blake asked for some coaching on this windy day in Santa Barbara. Because our Santa Barbara bay is quite protected, we don't always get the weather that our fellow Optimist sailors have in San Francisco or on the East Coast. Opportunities to sail in this wind make our SBYSF sailors more confident should this weather turn up at an out of town regatta.
